We’ve worked with United Way in every community where we do business. We believe strongly in United Way’s mission: to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community. That’s why we participate in their Day of Caring alongside giving financially.
In partnership with community stakeholders, GHSP employees collect furniture, food, clothes and first necessity items to be donated to La Casa del Migrante.
La Casa del Migrante is a non-profit organization that helps immigrants from South America that leave their countries looking for better opportunities. La Casa del Migrante helps them find a place to stay, where they receive food and clothes. They also receive assistance to find a job to get back on their feet.
“We talk about how to make things better for the next generation and for the company, and that means we need to care about the health, safety, and environment [of our workspaces and communities],” Davy Ou, general manager at GHSP China, said. They've worked actively in their community in a variety of ways for the last 10 years, planting trees annually, as well as working with local schools and hospitals to build up their neighborhoods.
After years of funding issues, the Northwest Ottawa Recreation Authority (NORA) revived their recreation summer school with a grant from United Way. JSJ initially provided mentorship through their interns. “We want to teach kids to give back to their community,” Jill Vanderstel, coordinator for NORA, said. “That’s what JSJ likes to do as well.” From there, we’ve partnered with NORA through Feeding America, scholarship programs, and even employee participation in adult recreation leagues.

One of our core values—steward our legacy—is the responsibility to give back to the community that has generously supported us throughout the years. We created the JSJ Foundation in 1983, and have since invested millions to programs in education, humanities and arts, health, the environment, and human and social service programs. Through good times and bad, we’ve shifted our dollars to programs that need it the most.
