Modular plastic belting is known for being durable, low-maintenance and easy to clean. Sparks, a conveyor belt manufacturer, is known for its personalized service and support that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Together, this winning combination is known as Dura-Lock
Constructed of plastic modules and integrated rod systems, Dura-Lock modular plastic belting is typically used in place of traditional fabric belts when conveyors are exposed to extreme temperatures such as heat from ovens and cold from freezers, high-pressure washes, heavy loads, and continually wet conditions common to vegetable, seafood, meat and poultry processing.
Standard Dura-Lock materials include polyethylene, polypropylene and polyacetal which are all are FDA approved for direct food contact. Every business has unique processes and Sparks offers additional Dura-Lock solutions that keep products moving even in the most extreme conditions. This includes belts made with materials such as composite (thermal expansion), reinforced (pulling force), non-stick, detectable (food processing), flame retardant and more.
When product weight is extreme, customers turn to Dura Lock belting. “We recently installed a Dura-Lock belt at a large produce company that is one of the heaviest loaded modular belts in the world,” says Brian Huskey, Product Manager with Sparks. “It’s for a ‘rough dump’ application, meaning semi-trucks filled with produce have to be able to dump the entire trailer load at once onto the belt which then has to move the product into the facility for processing. The belt holds up to 100,000 pounds total product weight.”
When properly designed and installed, modular plastic belting is extremely durable, lasting up to 10 years or more. Because it is modular, the assembly, disassembly and repairs are simplified and can be done quickly on-site.
With 10 locations throughout the United States and Mexico and a national network of over 30 sales associates, Sparks keeps conveyor systems moving. “Our associates are trained to help make on-site recommendations for a wide range of industries and applications,” says Huskey. “Our commitment to 24/7 service and a national network means we are there when our customers need us most.”
