Enhancements at Hudson
Since 1940, Hudson has been the design engineer’s choice for precision deep-drawn enclosures and stampings produced from high alloy materials. JSJ’s Hudson business provides precision metal components for the medical, aerospace, automotive, electronic, industrial and commercial industries.
Today, Hudson is investing in processing improvements that benefit both customers and the environment. The first piece of new equipment is a JENFAB aqueous cleaning system for Hudson’s medical product department. It replaced the older Trichloroethylene (TCE) equipment, elevating Hudson to the first company among its competitors for eliminating a solvent-based degreaser from the metal cleaning process.
Second, Hudson installed a new hydrogen "hump-back" furnace for annealing, or heating and slowly cooling, metal products so they can be bent and shaped for different end-market uses. Bringing the annealing process in-house, Hudson reduces lead-time for its customers and improves quality control over this highly specialized process.
“We absolutely believe that the movement away from TCE is in the best interest of all of our constituents,” says Mark Andrews, president of Hudson. “The aqueous cleaning system and associated synthetic lubricants will enhance quality and productivity while providing an environmentally friendly solution to our deep draw technology. The furnace allows Hudson to embrace single piece flow in a lean manufacturing system.”
