GHSP employees help their neighbors through Feed America
More than 70 families in Michigan’s Oceana County benefited from the generosity of GHSP employees and their families, who helped fill a Feed America food truck. These dedicated volunteers braved freezing temperatures to collect and distribute groceries to a local food pantry, a rescue mission, and a day care facility as well as other nearby neighbors in need.
GHSP also sponsored two Feed America trucks near its workplace location in Grand Haven.
For the collection site in Oceana County, GHSP teamed up with the United Way of the Lakeshore to secure the food truck. According to Nicole Schwarz, United Way coordinator, GHSP recognized the need to help fill a gap in the community and took action. “GHSP has historically supported the United Way annual campaign, so this is a natural partnership for us,” she says.
Sponsoring the Feed America trucks was a visible way to demonstrate GHSP's involvement with the community. Community is one of five stakeholder groups – including Employees, Owners, Suppliers and Customers – in the GHSP business model. Teams have recently been formed to advocate for each stakeholder group. Sponsoring the Feed America trucks was one of the Community Stakeholder team’s first activities.
The role of the GHSP Community Stakeholders team is to encourage GHSP employees to be involved in their communities, to communicate GHSP's presence as an active corporate citizen – and to show GHSP employees how the community is a stakeholder in its future success. “It’s important to show our employees, as well as their friends and neighbors, that GHSP and parent company JSJ truly believe in creating a better quality of life in the communities where we live and work,” says Leanne Feldpausch, GHSP employee and chairperson of the Community Stakeholder Team.
